Corn Maze to host Music and Arts Fest

Brevard, August 19, 2001: "Land of the Sky Music and Arts Festival" will take place at the Blue Ridge Corn Maze near Brevard, NC on September 22, 2001.

Originally planned for Asheville, the venue change will allow visitors to experience one of eight corn mazes in NC. The Brevard maze is cut in the shape of a fiddle, musical notes and the words “Hoedown Time in the Blue Ridge Mountains.”

The music and arts festival will feature blues and slide performances, music competitions, artists and food vendors.

Musicians can enter in a variety of competitions.A $100 prize is offered in each category. Applications for music competitions and vendors are still being accepted.

Featured performers are Phil and Gaye Johnson, Joe and Janice Marquand, Ned Evett, Terry Eckard Band, and more.

“The event is alcohol-free and family-oriented," Taylor Mackey, owner of the festivals' promoter, Double Hollow Productions and co-owner of the corn maze, said.

Festival hours are 10am-11pm on Saturday, Sept. 22.Festival tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.Ticket holders can tour the maze for $3, half the regular admission price.

ASHEVILLE FESTIVALS INVITE ARTISTS AND VENDORS

ASHEVILLE, NC:   Artists, crafters, music-related products and other vendors are needed for "Land of the Sky Music and Arts Festival", which will include "The Family Tree Music Fest", "The National Slide Guitar Fest", "The Musician's Fair Expo" and "The Blue Ridge Blues Festival" at the Asheville High School complex in Asheville, NC on September 21-23, 2001.

Indoor and outdoor spaces are available for artists, crafters, retailers and food vendors. "We want a variety of vendors to participate and have tried to keep the fees reasonable," Taylor Mackey, owner of the festivals' promoter, Double Hollow Productions, said.

Space rental fees are $75 for outdoor spaces and $100 for indoor spaces for the three day event. The fee includes admission to all  festival events, a listing in the festival program and a link for the web site.

"The Musicians Fair Expo" will showcase instruments, recording companies, talent agents and music industry vendors.  "The Family Tree Music Fest" will honor musical groups that include family members such as The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen, The Beach Boys, The Judds, Dixie Chicks, The Isley Brothers, The Carpenters and others.  "The Blue Ridge Blues Fest" will highlight national and regional rhythm and blues musicians.  "The National Slide Guitar Festival" will feature slide guitar, dobro, mandolin, lap and pedal steel musicians. National and regional performers, amateur competitions and workshops will be held throughout the weekend.

All festivals are alcohol-free and suited for families.

LOGO DESIGN CONTESTS ANNOUNCED

ASHEVILLE, NC:   Logo designs are being accepted until May 26 for the "Land of the Sky Music and Arts Festival," the "The Family Tree Music Fest," "The National Slide Guitar Fest," "The Musician's Fair Expo" and "The Blue Ridge Blues Festival" scheduled in Asheville, NC on September   21-23, 2001.

Double Hollow Productions, the promoter of the festivals, decided to hold the contests.  "We needed the logos and wanted to give aspiring artists and art students the opportunity to have their designs published.  We are planning an awards ceremony sometime in June to recognize the entrants and design winners," company owner Taylor Mackey said.

"The theme of each festival should be reflected in the logo design," Mackey said.

"Land of the Sky Music and Arts Fest" is the banner name for the entire Asheville event.

"The Family Tree Music Fest" will honor musical groups that include family members such as The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen, The Beach Boys, The Judds, Dixie Chicks, The Isley Brothers, The Carpenters and others.  Regional groups will perform and compete.

"The Blue Ridge Blues Fest" will highlight national and regional rhythm and blues musicians and amateur band and solo competitions.

"The National Slide Guitar Festival" will feature slide guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, lap and pedal steel, homemade instruments, band and songwriting competitions. Workshops will be held for both the Slide and Blues festivals.

"The Musician's Fair Expo" will showcase instruments, music equipment, recording companies, regional crafts and artwork.

The logo contest winners will have their designs featured in all festival publications and will receive credits and a link from the festival web sites to their personal or business web site.  Sponsors are being sought for additional prizes.

ASHEVILLE, NC:   Music competition entries in songwriting and performances by groups and soloists in a variety of musical categories are announced for "The Family Tree Music Fest", "The National Slide Guitar Fest" and "The Blue Ridge Blues Festival" at the first annual "Land of the Sky Music and Arts Festival", September 21-23, 2001 at the Asheville High School complex in Asheville, NC.

Double Hollow Productions of Penrose, NC is promoting the "Land of the Sky Music and Arts Festival", which will also include "The Musicians Fair and Expo" to showcase instruments, recording companies, talent agents and music industry vendors.

Taylor Mackey, owner of Double Hollow Productions decided to include the contests. "There are so many great musicians out there that should be heard. We want them to have the opportunity to compete, earn prizes, and be heard by the public," Mackey said.

"The Family Tree Music Fest" will honor musical groups that include family members such as The Allman Brothers Band, Van Halen, The Beach Boys, The Judds, Dixie Chicks, The Isley Brothers, The Carpenters and others. Competitions in the Family Tree festival will include open style and songwriting, limited to amateur groups of at least two family members.

"The Blue Ridge Blues Fest" competitions are open to amateur songwriters, blues bands and solo artists.

"The National Slide Guitar Festival" categories will include electric, acoustic, dobro, pedal lap steel, and other: i.e. homemade instruments, banjo, mandolin, and songwriting. Music workshops are scheduled for the Slide and Blues festivals.

Competitions will take place at the two Asheville High School auditoriums during the three day event. Regional and national acts will perform also. Artists, craftspeople and other vendor booths will be setup throughout the campus grounds.

"Record company representatives and music promoters have been invited. It should be a great networking opportunity for musicians," Mackey said.

All festivals are alcohol-free and suited for families.

Contestants must submit a demo tape or CD with two songs and a $40 entry fee by August 15.
